Development of Information services, Advice and Guidance in Adult Education in Finland

The Ministry of Labour worked together with the Ministry of Education on a proposal for an Action Programme aimed to guarantee appropriate guidance and advisory services for the citizens enabling them to plan individual and flexible paths of study. The task for the joint working group, that started working 1 June 2005, was to prepare an action plan for developing information and advisory services of adult education and guidance supporting the planning of working life and education/training careers.
The proposed measures were 5. And the challenge was to keep them simple and understandable and to propose realistic measures. Many projects and developing programmes concerning counselling and carrier guidance have been done in Finland, so they gave an excellent base for the work on ministry level. You can read the proposal in Finnish in www.mol.fi/julkaisut or summaries in Swedish and English by clicking the language links:

Senior Adviser Teija Felt from the Ministry of Labour was a member in the working group and Educational Counsellor Raija Meriläinen from the Ministry of Education was one of the secretaries. NVL interviewed them about the process and the results.
