Construction of a model for clarification and documentation of the competencies acquired in liberal adult education.

Land / Country: Danmark
Språk / Language: Engelska
Utbildningsform / Form/type of education: Fri bildning / folkbildning / Non formal AE
Orsak för validering / Reason for validation: (Annan / Other): Since it’s non-formal learning, the opportunities of description and validation of non-formal learning are becoming very important for the area and especially for the participants. The aim of our project of validation is actually not validation in a Danish sense of the word. It’s more accurate to name it “a model for clarification and documentation of the competencies acquired in liberal adult education”.The aim is to offer our participants a tool to describe their development of competencies by participating in the courses offered by our schools and local societies. That is to provide at basis on which the participants can grow more conscious about their individual development of competencies. Furthermore the aim is to provide a basis on which we can clarify and communicate the key-competencies developed in the liberal adult education system.
Validator: (Annan / Other): NETOP – Network for non-formal adult education. LOF – Liberal Association of Adult Education. NETOP and LOF are non profit organisations, which organizes local societies and schools for liberal adult education. We are engaged in a wide variety of activities and cover a wide range of subjects – from courses in language, health to a lot of different crafts courses. Every adult (age 18 and up) can attend the courses. There are no specific or formal standards of levels in the courses since everything is non formal learning.

Beskrivning / Case description:

The system consists of a homepage with open sites containing information on the system, the seven key-competencies in the system and how to use it - www.kompetenceprofilen.dk Furthermore you can find background information about the work with validation of competencies in other parts of liberal adult education both in Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia and finally background information about the policy of the EU and of the Danish government in the area of systems of validation. The other part of the homepage is closed for the public and only open for those participants having a log in for the system. The participants get the log ins from their teacher. This part of the homepage is the actual tool for describing the development of competencies. The tool is a questionnaire with around 70 questions related to seven key-competencies. The participant is asked to evaluate their improvement in relation to each question – did they get any better on the subjects? After they have answered all the questions, they get a profile that shows how they answered the questions. The profile therefore is a picture of their development during the course in relation to the seven key competencies. Afterwards the participant can use his or hers profile as documentation for personal clarification of competencies, self-development or as a basis for an actual process of validation and formal recognition of competencies regarding their career or wishes for (further) education.
