Beskrivning / Case description:

Welding Background: Emad is 45 years old and came to Sweden from Iraq ten years ago. He has studied Swedish and other subjects in adult education programs and has also begun a teacher training program at Örebro University. In Iraq he worked as a welder for five years, but he has no certificate of his competence. Goal: He needs to get a job quickly since it is difficult for him to support his family on student loans. If it is possible he would like to work as well as study. Vocational Competence How: Emad visits CityAkademin and asks about validations. He immediately does a mapping with a study and vocational counsellor and they discuss his experience in welding. He meets a vocational studies teacher for half a day and get to show his practical skills. The teacher also evaluates his theoretical knowledge. Where: The validation takes place in a study environment at an upper secondary school specialising in Industrial Work and Welding. A vocational studies teacher is responsible for the validation. When: The validation was completed during half a day. Documentation: Emad get grades in two courses in Welding. Follow-up: He is looking for work and begins to work as a welder at an industrial company a month later.
